Someone is fibbing!

They played Night of 1000 stars? That kind of bothers me. I can't hear anyone but Warren singing that (I guess people said that about Jerry tunes, but Warren is still alive). Bring back PLQ.
I'm not so sure how i feel about the dead playing PLQ songs either. It does seem as though warren would have to be there. Even if he didn't sing the songs...it's just strange. Oh well, if they play PLQ songs at the shows i'm at i'll welcome them with open arms.
looks like heaven
The Dead playin' PLQ tunes is fine by me so long as..
Bobby stays away from the Schwagg Dog tunes
they don't do Patchwork or Real Thing w/o Warren(don't think they would anyway)
yeah...i'll agree with Hail on that one! But like you said, they wouldn't do that anyway.
thanks to Althea for the setlist
Is Taperrob's the definitve setlist. If so sounds like it was a scorcher. Hope they keep it up.
Ruebin and Cherise!!!!!!!!
GDead only played it 6 times...Wham, the second night of Summer Tour? That's amazing!
Saratoga here we come!
ummm... phriends... i would always rely on taperrob's setlist cuz it's what they threw down tonight!!!! talk about kicking it down in high style! go boys, go!!!!!!!!!!
My dad's on his way home from the show. He's never seen mountains of the moon before so I'm happy for him. Personally, looking at this setlist I'm kinda glad I turned down this show. It saved me forty bucks or so and the only song I'm really interested in is UJB. I can't wait for Merriweather, baby.
m'kay dave.
Don't worry Dave, they'll play Truckin', Casey Jones, Touch of Grey, and Throwin Stones, plus UJB at Merriweather.
Tonights setlist looks wicked!
i'm 2000 miles away and i can feel the waves TREMBLING from the east with the sweet jerry tunes a' flowin' with the new band representing in supreme fasion..
WHAT A SECOND SET - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LONG LIVE THE DEAD!!!!!!!!!!
Dave, my dad's on his way home from the show, too, and I'm waiting for his report. unfortunately, I won't be able to see the band until they (and my dad) make it up to Joisey next week.
by the way, on your profile, I think that should be "Zuul," not "Zool."
I'm assuming from the lack of a review here yet that the people who were there are still trying to catch their breath...
WHAT A 2ND SET!!! Was that for Real??? I think even the big man upstairs would've been impressed...ROCK ON!
>>>They played Night of 1000 stars? That kind of bothers me
Correct me if I am wrong, but I see no "Night of 1000 Stars" in the setlist! Though I must say everything that they DID play looks really really fun. I cannot wait to get my dancin shoes on and go see my run of shows. Come on Boyz, HURRY UP, I CAN'T WAIT MUCH LONGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO KIDDIN! I AM OVERWHELMED WITH ANTICIPATION MYSELF!!!!
I am new to the zone, and I must say that I feel right at home. I hope everyone is ready for a summer to remember. The two setlists that I have seen here so far are nicer than most I saw from the fall tour. Not to say that there was anything wrong with fall tour at all, but it's summertime, so lets really get things rockin here! See Ya'll on the highway... Be safe!!!!!
its 1:20 am. westy time and i think that the cats that where ther are still to buzzed to make a review .right know im listen to carlos and trey from the warfield just got it all d- loaded from further tis large. see yall on the 4th and at red rocks
Reuben and Cerise? What an incredible second set!
I can't wait to read a review...
I also can't wait for them to come up to Hartford
and Vernon...only two shows for me this tour... drats!
>>>>Ruebin and Cherise!!!!!!!!
GDead only played it 6 times...Wham, the second night of Summer Tour? That's amazing
And why is that amazing?
Would 'Louie Louie' be amazing?
Rueben & Cherise is a beautiful song, beloved by many for its connection to Garcia. not to mention great lyics by Hunter (not that you care about such trivial matters as lyrics).
Louie Louie is a novelty tune.
to compare the two is ridiculous.
never miss an oportunity to trivialize someones joy (or so it seems).
maybe the amazing thing is that they are at least trying to mix up the song selection and do something "new". at least they didn't play (insert your worst nightmare here, or maybe this is your worst nightmare) instead. minglewood anyone?
they can't all be YOUR favorites Bucky.
I "miss" the old style shows
of Hellina-Sugaree-Walkin closing with a Birdsong-Promised Land and a Second set Foolish-Victim-Gone-Smarter-d/s-Other1-Wharf-Throwit Away enc:Knockin
How many times I drove 2 hours to see that kind of show.
Man those were the days.
I am hopeful that the new Dead will deliver the goods this weekend in Toga and Hartford.
:-p
i am being told of a setlist correction.. there was no Black Throated Wind played... so here is an updated list:

looks pretty good to me, hopefully it was played well and jammed out. taperrob hinted that it sounded pretty good on the phone.
Dmamma, happy birthday...they did you good.
on paper, this show looks AMAZING, to me at least. Let it grow, shakedown, and help-slip all in the 2nd set? damn.
>>And why is that amazing?
Would 'Louie Louie' be amazing?<<
Bucky,
I honestly can't believe I have to explain it to you, but here goes, I wouldn't be impressed if they played "Louie, Louie"...why?
Because it WASN'T a JGB regular.
"Reubin & Cherise" was played by JGB or Garcia/Kahn 97 times...
The Dead 6 times, which kinda makes it a Jerry or JGB tune.
Back in '91 it was a treat to hear and should have made the Dead's regular rotation. I was fortunate to catch the last one @ Buckeye.
6/9/91 Buckeye Lake Music Center, Hebron, Oh.
1: Picasso, Sugaree, Minglewood, Ramble On, Masterpiece, Reubin & Cherise, Let it Grow
final "Reubin & Cherise"
In closing, the reason I'm excited is BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT FUCKING TUNE AND IT'LL MAKE MY SUMMER IF I CATCH IT!!!!
As if we haven't seen that second set a thousand times. heh Bring it on!
my god, what a set list!
that second half of the second set must've been electrifying.
yowza!
new material tonight? more surprises?
easy wind?
I dig that setlist, but I wanna see some reviews. The one thing is that the longer it takes to get reviews in, the more the people who will write reviews are exhausted. That means they musta danced their asses off so it musta been a good show, follow me ?
I'm especially curious as to the sound quality.
>>Rueben & Cherise is a beautiful song, beloved by many for its connection to Garcia. not to mention great lyics by Hunter (not that you care about such trivial matters as lyrics).

FUCK YEA TREBOR!!!!!!!
We had BTW on list in chatroom..Thank you Althea for the calls to T.Rob from show..
There was 80 or so people hanging on your every word..
I feel a revue coming.
>never miss an oportunity to trivialize someones joy (or so it seems).
This is Bucky in a nutshell...or so it seems.
Reuben and Cherise is one of my all time favorites...Hunter actually wrote the tune for Dylan who had that and Silvio to choose from...Dylan took Silvio so Garcia got Reuben, a very good thing! Now if they would just give Love in the Afternoon a shot....
I was there. Too burnt to write much now, running on 4 hours sleep. It was spectacular. The 2nd set was as good as it looks on paper. Yowza. See you tonight at Merriwether!
Me confused..OK..There was not a BTW..This should be elsewhere but Dylan also took..UGLIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD(Words and Music by Bob Dylan and Robert Hunter)and released on album 1988 Down in the Groove along with Silvio..
Thanks again to GDTSTOO I was in the front row at my hometown venue. It rained all damn day but finally stopped about an hour before show time. I made it to my seats just as the boys were coming on stage. Bobby brought out a nice Tele that he used for the whole show. After a small amount of tuning Bobby led the band into a nice and mellow Jack Straw which went into a well played Wheel. (On a side note, David Hasselhoff was at the show for most of the first set.) The band then went into a nice jam followed by a superb version of Crazy Fingers. I didn't think it could be done without Jerry but Jimmy hit the notes and Joan nailed the vocals perfectly. Steve Winwood came out a sang a rockin Loose Lucy. BY this time I new this was going to be one of those well played shows. Bobby started a well played but predictable Promised Land. The Built to last was nice and Mason's closer was great. Phil was really enjoying himself during the set. Joan really does wonders for songs that Phil sings. You'll have to hear it to see what I mean. The first set ran about 72 minutes. Overall 1st set rating would be an A.
The second set started off with a nice Drumz segment. I'm really glad to see Mickey and Billy at it again. The boys came back on for a nice Jam and went into a nice Mountains of the Moon. Bob had the acoustic strapped on and added nice touches to the song. Some set lists have Black Throated Wind being played next. It was NOT played. I've been waiting for a Weather Report Suite and I got it. Damn these guys played it beautifully. They nailed all of the vocals perfectly. The Let it Grow rocked the house. Jimmy wailed on the solos and Phil was Phil. It was some of the best stuff I've heard anyone do in years. No More I do followed. The a beautiful Must Have Been the Roses. Did I say Joan can sing? WOW! Then SHAKEDOWN. Holy Crap they jammed the hell out of this one. Jimmy had that Mutron dialed in just right. Bob's rhythm was fantastic and Phil was rumbling. A nice fast paced version of Reuben and Cherise with Joan on vocals. They transitioned into a well played Uncle John's which went right into a smokin Help>Slip>Franklins to close the set. The set ended at 10:57. There is an 11:00 PM curfew so I thought we may not get an encore but everyone came back on stage. Mickey started adjusting his mike so I thought Only The Strange we be up but to my surprise he sang Aiko. The band played it well and ended the show about 11:12. Everyone left the stage except Phil and he gave the donor rap and wished us well.
Overall this was a very well played show. Everyone on stage had big grins on their face most of the night and seemed to really be playing at their best. I hope the rest of the shows are as good as this one. I can't wait for the CD to arrive in a few days.
thanks for the review man
for those that were there - was Weir's guitar nice and loud in the mix?
David Hasselhoff? Did he bring any Baywatch co-stars?
Finally a review! Thanks man!
questions:
did phil sing no more do I?
did they do the "shake it down now" break during "shakedown street" a la indy last fall tour?
is rob going to be shut out on lead vocals this tour?
and who sang "built to last"?
thanx-peace
great review- can't wait for jerriweather tonite!!
No, Hassellhoff didn't have his co-stars. He appeared to be with his wife and a friend of hers.
Bob's guitar was perfectly in the mix all night to too load not too soft.
I don't remember who sang Built to Last. Couldn't tell who sang No more I do either. I used that time as a bathroom break.
I don't remember the "shake it down now" but I was really concentrating on the instruments not the vocals during that song.
Forgot to mention in earlier post that Rob and Jeff were amazing. I seem to rember Rob singing a song but I could be wrong.
I wish I was able to see a few more shows because I think they are going to be a few more spectacular night on this tour.
Rainy and chilly lot preshow. Constant drizzle throughout the day left many wet. Police presence was evident but not TOO obnoxious. Happy that I didn't see anyone get busted. Saw 5-0s confront many venders, but they gave all just warnings. Shakedown was real small and did not seem like there was too big a crowd. Lots of LOUD fighter jets flying through the area all day and night long. At least 100 flew by, seriously. Venue is very close to Oceana airbase. Onto the music..
Great show!!! My bro let me have his orchestra pit ticket in exchange for my pavilion ticket. Lo and behold I go to my seat and this guy asks if I want to be in the front row. The catch -- I have to kick the wookies out of the seats. No prob there.
Great Jack Straw to begin the first set. Jimmy seemed a lil hesistant at times to continue jamming during the solo parts. He kept looking over at Phil and Bobby for the nod to stop and go into the ending of the song. Almost looked like he wanted the nod at times, but Phil and Bobby just wouldn't give it . He seemed to get more comfortable as the set progressed. Don't quite remember the seques of the show but seemed like both sets were one song after another with no break. I was too caught up enjoying myself to remember. Jimmy seemed high in the mix, but that might have been because I was right next to his monitors and directly in between the house sound system speakers. Rob and Jeff were real difficult for me to hear.
Jack Straw went into The Wheel and you could tell by Phil's bass notes in the jam before they were going to play it. They took their time before beginning the song. Joan came out very excited and sang great, IMO. Crazy Fingers was next and Jimmy nailed it. Bobby was having technical problems and someone was fiddling with his equipment during the entire song. Rob and Jeff were taking turns during the entire show and doing only one keyboardist at a time during parts. They played together during Jack Straw, but started switching off at Crazy Fingers, I believe.
I remember now the band did stop before Promised Land. Phil said "We are having some technical difficuties, give us a moment" or something along those lines. Bobby cuts him off with "Horseshit" and starts strumming the opening chords to Promised. Appropriate song to play consider it is 'first' night of tour and so close to Norfolk. Jimmy nailed the solos on Promised and it was high energy. The new tone he is playing with is great.
Built to Last followed and was to the point. No jamming after the singing finished, just an abrupt end. Joan sang lead on Built to Last.
The band started up again with a decent length jam and you could hear the Mason's Children riffs clearly. Then, Boom! they go right into it. Masons was jammed well and was not spacey at all like the Masons I heard PLQ do in Portsmouth last year. It was a tad slower paced than the the 1970's Dead Masons I am used to, but good nonetheless.
The band looked real happy to be playing and the only confusion onstage were the technical difficulties and a couple times there was confusion between Phil and Joan when to begin singing again. Not a biggie though. Phil seemed to be leading the charge just like he did Fall 02 TOO. He used his switch where he can switch to his mike being heard only onstage often to cue the band. Great first set!
Ran into Althea while walking in the pavilion. Was stoked to meet her and other zoners that were hanging together including the birthday girl (Dmamma), Dpappa, Daydream, Brian, and friends (but didn't see Huck and others ). Great meeting them cats for the first time! Very kind souls. Went up to the lawn to partake and came back down for the next set.
Drums began the set. They was an ambient jam in the background kind of like space, but it was not being made by the boys onstage.
Boys came back on and started up a jam and segued into Mountains. Well played. Jimmy played Jerry riffs and his own quite nicely.
WRS was next and Bobby did a fantastic job on his acoustic. They nailed it right on the head. Let it Grow was impeccable too, and the boys went off, sending me into a high energy dancing oblivion.
No More Do I was well played, though a little slower tempo than the PLQ Charlotte version of last year. Phil's bass lines in the jam going into the song clearly hinted of the song to come. Was strange to hear the song Joan and Phil singing w/o Warren, though the Dead played it well.
Roses was a nice slow down in the tempo. Joan sang and it was beautiful.
Shakedown friggin rocked! Jimmy and the boys went off. Lots of great riffs. Joan strutted slyly across across the front of the stage while the boys jammed.
Reuben and Cherise friggin rocked too!!! Very fast version and Jimmy played so well. Get the tapes, err cds. The was a little confusion one part when Joan was about to start singing again too soon, but otherwise she was fantastic.
There was a jam going into UJB and it was clear they were about to go into it. Everyone sang together on it. Bobby sang the da da da da da da part at the end.
Then Boom! Help Slip Franklins (I called it DPappa ) Great way to end the show. Slipknot was short, concise, and high energy. I assume it was not too long because they were getting so close to curfew and still had to play Franklin's. Franklin's ripped. Jimmy does a great job with this song. Phil, Bobby, Rob, and Jeff were superb too. Lots of energy the entire song and great way to close the show.
Like Bill said, they went past the curfew, but still played the encore. Could tell Micket was going to be singing it because he was standing up when they began the song. The song was fun and sent everyone home with a smile and their face.
Another note, first time I've seen Phil do his donor rap after the encore.
All in all in was a fantastic show and left me with little energy afterwards from dancing to all the great tunes. Only show I get to see this tour and am stoked it got to be Va Beach after experiencing last night.
Was great to meet many zoners for the first time!!
Anyone else wondering if Hasselhoff took "Kit" to the show?
Pumped for St. Louis. Summer School teachers have a hard time getting out on the road like we used to.
Keep the reviews coming.
I especially look forward to Willie and the Dead particularly for the possibility of Mickey Raphael blowing Harp on stage during Rider and GDTRFB a la PLQ two summers ago.
Take care.
Phil
Wow..... head still spinnin....... home safe and sound... now to get ready for tonight.....
Geez, how could I forget Loose Lucy in my review? Well I did, and it was fun to see Steve Winwood singing and playing. Crowd gave him lots of applause)
Another review...
I drive down yesterday to catch the show. Back home today for Merriweather. Overall A- show. Would be a full A but the audience was very mellow and with this setlist the audience should have carried the band to new heights. Phil rolled well. Wasn't as crisp on the vocals as he can be but wasn't singing that much anyway. Bobby had good rythem and very much controlled the pace of the show. He sang well and was above average but not hot. his guitar wasnt being heard nearly as well and engage the audience at times but not throughout. Billy and Mickey...very hot. Their Drumz was not long enough. They were very smooth the entire show. Mickey let a great Aiko (more on details later). Joan didn't walk on stage until Crazy Fingers. She was on fire all night!!! Man can she sing. Sign her up and don't ever let her go. she was having more fun than everyone. Rob and Jeff were smoth all night...just enjoying the moment. MVP of the show: Jimmy Herring!!! No mic in front of him so we knew we wouldn't be hearing his voice all night. Using the old baseball analogy...he pitched a no hitter. That was his show last night and he OWNED it. I have seen him play ok before and seen setlists that didn't allow him to shine but that was then and this is now. Last night was made for him to shine and he was as bright as the sun. he never missed a cord and the sound was so crisp and focused on his guiter (this is why Bobby wasn't being heard). As horrible as this to say or think...for the first time since '95 i listened to the band and did not miss Jerry's playing at all. Yea I miss grandpa singing and his presence being felt but Jimmy shined the way Jerry used to. Not the '90s Jerry, the '70s Jerry. Last night...Jimmy made made the dead Grateful again.
Now the details. jack straw. Nice upbeat way to get the show started. Good opener. Right into The Wheel...throw out the traditional 1st and 2nd set songs. We're rolling with it. Nice jam to follow...conservative but we're just getting warmed up. Joan walks out for Crazy Fingers. she got her jacket on...60 degree weather after the rainstorm. the leads a very smooth Crazy and settles the pace down a bit by doing so. She quickly looses the jacket - for the band is hot tonight. The band jams right into Loose Lucy with Winwood taking over on keyboard at mid-note. He leads a slightly faster then Jerry Loose Lucy and sounds good. (Major question - because winwood sang will they have to remove Lucy from the CD. I asked Dennis about that after the show and he doesn't know yet. he was going to remaster it last night and this morning. I'll check back with him tonight at the show) There was some kind of technical difficult after Lucy (something with Bobby's equipment) and Phil says to the crowd that they need to take a minute and fix it. Bobby chimes in "Bullshit, lets go" and then busts out a killer Promised Land. Typical song considering VA Beach is right over the bridge from Norfolk. They slow it down again with a very nice Built to Last. This is an excellent choice for the 1st set of their 1st show on the tour. You can play this song at Bonnaroo with all of the other bands there but it does send a nice messege that they are here to stay and get ready for a great tour. they kept it mellow with a rare Mason Children to end the set. Pretty good set...now clue how good it would get. Billy and Mickey lead off with a great Drumz that could and should have continued longer because they were On. Jam into Mountains and WRS (I don't remember a BTW but maybe I was just could up with Jimmy playing by then. Jimmy was in full swing and carried it through. Very sweet Let it grow and Phil was rolling throughout No More do I. Joan started to steal the show on Roses. she was grooving a hitting every night. Whe was very at home up there and was extremely engaging. The band jams right into a funky Shakedown and she uses this as an opportunity to let everyone know how much fun she and the boys are having. She ways infront of th keybords (in front of all the mics) and just struts across the front of the stage. She was in full form during roses and was riding that high all the way in. Reuben & Cerise...wow...what a rare find. the audience wasn't into it enough because most had no idea what a treat is was. Maybe a tribute to a fallen warrior. Breaking into UJB got everyone grooving. with everyone wondering which direction they band was going to take us now (they were in control of our emotional highs and lows all night with this setlist) the bust out with Help/Slip/Frank. Once again Jimmy leading the way. They jammed so well here. It reminded me of a late Dead Fall '94 show in Boston when they opened with H/S/F that I swear lasted 45 minutes. Fans were so mesmorized we didn't know what to do. No "Not fade" clap, not many lighters, just everyone blowed away. Band comes back out and Mickey leads a very energized and sweet Aiko. He was having a blast! His mic sounded great (They played Aiko in DC in the fall and his mic was way too low) and they finished strong.
It took me 3 hrs to get home this am which is why the review is so late. I'll have tonights show posted sooner...maybe even tonight if its that hot....See you are merriweather then I'm off till Camden.
What time did they come on stage?
7:02
>>>>>Bobby was having technical problems and someone was fiddling with his equipment during the entire song.
I love Bob Weir, but why is it ALWAYS Bobby who has the technical difficulties?
Sounds like a great fun show.
>>>>>Hunter actually wrote the tune for Dylan who had that and Silvio to choose
from...Dylan took Silvio so Garcia got Reuben,
I believe R+C dates from the mid-'70s, whereas Silvio is from the mid-'80s.
What a pity they started the show at 5:00 PM - most of the crowd was still stuck in traffic. Poor Steve Winwood! Maybe 1/10 of the crowd was there for his set, and he sounded so good! Jet noise was definitely a part of the background (it always is in Va Beach - it's like Oceana schedules training flights around concerts), but by about 9:00 the music drowned them out, at least for those of us near the stage. Don't know about those on the lawn, tho. ANd yes, David Hasselhoff was there with a blond in a wheelchair and other friends. He kept a low profile, no autograph crap going on. Didn't see Kit . . . rumor has it he was on one of the old buses in the parking lot . . . The weather held out for the show, but the grass was wet . . . sorry: the grass was MUDDY. And yes, Phil sent a powerful message to thousands at the end: donate your ogans so that others may live.
7 PM sharp
Does anyone else agree there was no Black Throated Wind?
After the Valentines Rex Beni in San Francisco, I kept saying, "Guys, Joan friggin ROCKS! You're gonna have to just wait and see, but when you do, you'll get it." Maybe I'll try to find the actual posting. And I got flamed for it, but here we are. I'm *so* excited to see the positive Joan reviews. Not 'cause I'm right (he he), but because she really does ROCK and she brings SO MUCH to this band.
From the Grateful Dead Lyric And Song Finder
Reuben And Cerise
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia
There are some variations on the spelling of the title. The Hunter book of lyrics has it as "Reuben and Cerise" (with an 'acute' accent on the 'e' of Cerise). Other version have "Cherise." And I've seen "Ruben" as well, though I think that's just an error. This is a song mainly associated with the Jerry Garcia Band and with Hunter's solo performances. But the Dead played it four times in 1991. It can be found o 1978's Cats Under The Stars (Jerry Garcia Band), 1980's Jack O'Roses (Robert Hunter), Dec 1990 Box Of Rain(Robert Hunter) & 7 Apr 1991 View From The Vault II
Hope to see many other gems pulled out and dusted off this summer...
Hey Doogels,I don't know if you remmember me,but we sat next to each other at the Kaiser shows last yr.I agree with you on Joan love her in the band.I hope for you that the sept.shows do come your way out there in san fran.I'll be at all five Red Rocks shows here in Colo. And my band is doing well, just played last night at a place here in denver.Well, you all have a great tour see ya at REDDDDD ROOOOCKSS ya baby ya
Randy K
>I believe R+C dates from the mid-'70s, whereas Silvio is from the mid-'80s.
I hear ya, the dates don't make sense... I could have sworn I read that somewhere in a Hunter interview...I'll dig a bit and see what I come up with.
Question for Dewitt. What do you consider the 5 best P and F shows. I am looking to upgrade my CD collection and want to have the best Phil stuff in it. Thanks alot. I trust your opinion.
Hey!!! Whattup, Randy! I think I do remember. Were you there for the "Top Five Bass Players" discussion?
I've been trying to get my pic up on my profile, but I can't figure out how to get the dang thing down to the correct size.
Money's exceptionally tight this summer, so I'm not traveling to Red Rocks. (I had to cancel my Dead Willie picnic, which hurt...) I'm pulling for September, too, but I get my Phil!
I'm not sure which band I was playing in last time we talked, but my new bands are both doing well. One of 'em has a website, but it's not really similar music to what we're doing here, so I won't do a shameless plug...
Marpesny1, that's a *good* topic for a new thread. You should start that on the "Other Stuff" page.
This show looks nuts! Glad they brought back weather report. can't wait till the jersey shows next week. Bonnaroo was great but I need more!!! Hope you all had a good time in VA last night!
>>>>>>> I "miss" the old style shows of Hellina-Sugaree-Walkin closing with a Birdsong-Promised Land and a Second set Foolish-Victim-Gone-Smarter-d/s-Other1-Wharf-Throwit Away enc:Knockin
>>>>>>>> How many times I drove 2 hours to see that kind of show. Man those were the days.
DUDE - YOU SUCK - DIDDLY - UCK!
A word of advice - Stick with Dark Star Orchestra!
By the way, the 2nd set pre-drums would be "Victim-Foolish-Women-He's Gone" (and of course no jam into drums to keep it milk-toasty rockin' for you Coors-schwillin' types)
i think he was being sarcastic. as evidence by the "miss".
dude, i really wish they'd pull out a fat Picasso Moon..lol.

Ahh. . . 12/14/90 McNichols the memories of an underwhelming second set!
I thought the story was about Touch and Silvio, and Hunter was shocked when Jer chose Touch.
>>>Ahh. . . 12/14/90 McNichols the memories of an underwhelming second set!
especially considering the previous two shows. something had to give.
I went to Va Beach & saw the Grateful Dead!..amazing
A few things too note:
The sound system is 1000 times better than fall tour.
Jimmy has stepped up his game in a big way, his solo's were so Garcia-esqe it was unreal. Ear piercing at times.
To all those who were unsure about Joan, dont be. She is NOT overused in any way. She didnt even appear until a few songs into both sets(not including drums). Her vocal level was perfect, not like the rehearsal tunes, the mix was just right. Song selection was great for her as well. Crazy Fingers, Roses, R&C! Did I mention that shes pretty hot as well?(Not too be sexist, but her breasts did cast a fairly large shadow at this show. Guess it could of been the lighting :P) At one point she was giving Phil the booty grind, not touching but Im talking inches.
Rueban & Cherise! Totally unexpected & the highlight of the show for me. They did the song justice. Joan flubbered the lyrics at a couple of points, but no worse than the way Jerry would 99% of the time. Damn its gotta be a hard song to sing, she did a fine job. Well played by all.
Crowd was very mellow, & turnout was average. Far from sold out. But it was a weekday show & bad weather.
On a personal note, after the first set I got quite depressed, which im still reeling from now. Never has happened to me at a show before. Fairly short first set ends & i think ....geez..it just goes by so fast. Set 2 was perfect length, but I couldnt help thinking, it will be over before I know it. Back to the grind. Im a N. Va head, but missed Merriweather because of other obligations. I will be doing the Camden shows & Atlanta. (Work, kids, wife, only so much I can get away with these days) But even with those to come I feel its not enough for me. I mean you wait wait wait for tour, get your tix, make your plans, hit the road, get to the show, BOOOM FLASH KAZZAAM its over. With every donor rap, with every new grey hair I see on Bobby's head, i'm imbedded with the knowledge that things aint gonna last forever. Gotta go now while we can.
Shall we? :P
Ahh well...what to do? Smoke a fatty, throw on a tasty show, check the boards, brain swirling into a sticky paste. Gotta save up for my normal post tour depression.
Cya in Camden
Great show...and yes it was Hasselhoff there...it was far out. We were on Jimmy's side and had alot of fun. Everyone played well and they sound great. All the tunes sound so good I really don't know where to begin. It was awesome and this tour will be a blast.
Must agree with the comments about the crowd. I was front row and half the people were sitting down and unethusiastic for at least 80-90% of the show. How friggin lame! At least give the seats to someone who can appreciate them. Maybe it was the weather, but still..crowd just didn't seem to appreciate what was going down.
I was in the front row as well but the folks down on Jimmy's side were dancin pretty much all night.
Hey Bill, what seat number were you, we were probably right next to each other ? I was seat 18, Jimmy side -- spinning, tall guy with fruit of the loom characters on my t-shirt. The people on either side of me were sitting down... I must not have been paying very close attention to the whole row.
For those of you who didn't get enough Hasselhoff:

I was in seat 2
love that lost in space tease during franklin's tower
Yo I was on the front row also. I was the only one dancin' durin winwoods set. I was in seat 15 and 14
